Client Requirements
A primary school in St Helens needed to create additional classroom space — and they needed it quickly to stay ahead of growing enrolment pressures. With student numbers on the rise, the school turned to modular buildings for a fast, flexible solution that could be delivered with minimal disruption.
Working in partnership with Portakabin, PKB Civils was brought in to prepare the site for rapid installation. The priority was to create a safe, stable foundation that could support the modular units immediately — without compromising safety, long-term usability, or the day-to-day running of the school.
The project called for precise groundwork, including the installation of 600mm x 600mm concrete pads to anchor each structure securely and safely support the modular buildings. Alongside speed and stability, future-proofing was a key part of the brief. The foundations had to allow for straightforward decommissioning once the temporary classrooms were no longer needed, without impacting the surrounding site or disrupting future use.
By balancing urgency with forward-thinking design, PKB Civils helped the school stay ahead of growing demand while ensuring flexibility for the future and peace of mind for staff and students alike.
The clients experience
PKB Civils were brilliant — quick, professional, and easy to work with. They got everything ready on time for the modular classrooms, and made sure the site was safe and future-proofed. Exactly what we needed.
