Client Requirements
When R Tindall approached PKB Civils to redevelop their Oldham yard, their brief was built around two priorities: future-proof the site to handle increased operational demand and ensure day-to-day business continued without disruption. The yard had to remain accessible and functional throughout the works — a challenge that required detailed planning, close collaboration, and a flexible delivery approach.
The project involved a full resurfacing of the existing yard, an upgrade to the drainage infrastructure, and a reconfiguration of the layout to better support the movement of heavy goods vehicles. These upgrades were essential not only for improving operational efficiency but also for reducing wear and tear over time, ensuring the yard could withstand frequent use by large fleets.
Keeping disruption to an absolute minimum was key. The site was in active daily use, meaning any misstep could impact schedules, deliveries, or on-site safety. To navigate this, our team developed a phased construction programme that kept critical areas live while we worked. Each stage was planned in close coordination with R Tindall’s operational team to align with business priorities and reduce risk.
Safety, as always, remained at the centre. With vehicle movements and staff on site, we worked within strict safety parameters and maintained clear communication throughout to protect everyone involved.
The result is a modern, high-performing yard built to last — one that supports smoother logistics, stronger safety performance, and the client’s future growth — all delivered without putting day-to-day operations on hold.
