The problem
AVK wanted to bring an unused, overgrown plot next to its working yard into use. The yard around it stayed busy throughout, so the work had to be fenced off and phased around deliveries and vehicle movements.
What we did
- Ground investigation first: plate bearing and CBR tests and a topographical survey to check the subgrade
- Site cleared and reduce dug to 450mm below finished level, with all arisings taken away
- 200mm Type 1 sub-base laid and compacted in layers, then trimmed to levels and falls
- New surface water drainage installed under the slab
- 200mm C40 fibre-reinforced slab on A252 mesh and membrane, dowelled into the existing concrete and brush finished
- Joints saw cut and a curing agent applied, with concrete cube tests taken on each bay
The result
AVK has a new concrete yard where the overgrown plot was, built to the levels and falls set out at the start and drained into new surface water drainage. The rest of the yard kept working throughout.
The guys have been brilliant from start to finish... Thanks again to all the team and really appreciate the work you have done for us. Who knows you may end up at another AVK site in the future...
