Turning a Hazardous Yard Into a Safe Manufacturing Site
A yard without clear traffic flow is a safety risk, particularly on a busy manufacturing site. For this springs manufacturer in Rochdale, the existing manufacturing yard concrete was not fit for purpose. The ground was a hazard and there was not enough usable, solid surface to run a safe one-way system around the site. Until that changed, the yard was a problem the business could not operate safely around.
PKB Civils were brought in to resolve it. Over a four to five week programme, we installed 500m² of new manufacturing yard concrete across the site, giving the client a surface that could safely support the one-way system they needed to operate properly. The new concrete provided a firm, consistent surface across the full footprint, removing the hazardous ground conditions that had been making safe vehicle and pedestrian movement difficult.
The project also included a practical on-site waste solution. All excavated material from the groundworks was removed and compacted into an internal pit within the building rather than being taken off site. This kept the site clean throughout the programme, avoided the cost and disruption of multiple waste runs, and meant the client’s operation was not impacted by heavy vehicle movements in and out of the site during the works.

The clients experience
The fact you have a road sweeper coming on-site to clean up, is very much appreciated and shows attention to detail. Your team always work clean and tidy, and what really stood out is their communication and the fact nothing is too much trouble. The concrete repairs exceeded my expectations and should make the area much safer to work in.
